First Encounter

My first wild fairy hunt proved how difficult this new endeavor could be. Because the fairies can choose whether to be visible or invisible, they could be all around me and I would not know it. I was about to surrender for the day when I saw her sitting in the tree, sunning herself in the afternoon light and looking out at the river. Her hair was like fire, her skin like porcelain. Then she was gone. As I looked for her, the voices came, challenging my presence there. Suddenly, she was back and not alone. Laughter filled the woods as some kind of tree-thing grappled me. I hope it was toying with me but it did seem hungry. Luckily, I escaped to fairy hunt another day.
